New year, new you? But what about your home? The changing of the year can bring a lot of motivation, so why not channel that into making your house the very best it can be for 2020? We’ve put together 5 resolutions that will make your life easier (and your home a happier place to be)!

1. Go Green!

People have never been more aware of humanity’s impact on the environment, and that is definitely showing in how they manage their home.

No matter your budget, there is always something you can do to make your abode greener. Of course, there are the big-ticket items like insulation and solar panels, but all the little eco-conscious things you do around the home can add up to a big difference! Drawing blinds and curtains & closing windows in the summer mornings can keep the home cooler, reducing the need for artificial cooling. Make sure you turn lights and appliances off when they aren’t being used, use timers for your watering systems, and don’t forget to recycle as much as you can!

2. Get Organised.

A cluttered home can often lead to a cluttered mind! Bring the calm back to your living space by doing away with the disorder. – tidy your space, transform your life now that’s a good start to 2020!

The best way to go about clearing your home (and stress) is to start with one room, making your way through the rest of the house. Purge everything you don’t use (or don’t love!) and try to either donate or recycle those items which could benefit someone else. Create smarter storage spaces; whether choosing furniture which has storage within it, or utilising storage boxes and clothes organisers to maximise space and minimise clutter. In the wise words of Marie Kondo if it doesn’t spark joy, get rid of it!

3. Back to Nature

Studies have shown that incorporating plants into your living space can lower stress levels and improve mood, as well as concentration levels.

Aside from bringing a beautiful, natural look to your décor, introducing plants into your home can have a number of incredible benefits. Plants are not only the best natural air purifiers, they can help you sleep better, fight colds, AND you can even supplement your green groceries with the produce from certain plants which do well indoors (such as carrots, mandarins, and tomatoes).

4. Super Scents!

Too often we’re focused on what our home looks like, but we’re here to let you know: scent is essential to interior decorating.

Scents can cause emotional reactions because we process it in the part of the brain where our memories and feelings are stored. Introducing flowers, candles, or other scent-stimulating features into a room can not only make you feel nostalgic, but help you make new memories too. Scent makes your home more inviting and can help lighten the mood for cheap!

5. Deep Clean!

Be honest – when was the last time you really cleaned your home? Maybe 2020 is the right time to get into those oft-forgotten spaces and cleanse your home and mind!

How long ago did you last move your furniture to clean underneath and behind it? What about your window tracks, window coverings, and pantry? The start of a new year is the perfect opportunity to start with a clear mind and a perfectly clean home. Go through each room, taking care to think of the places that may have been ignored for a little while.
